Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well. Today, I want to share a deeply personal journey and invite you to join me in supporting two organizations that have become profoundly significant to me: the Jack Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation and the AJGA’s Liberty National ACE Grant.
My name is Liam Lodding, an AJGA Junior golfer from Illinois. I have been playing the game of golf since I was 2 years old.
On July 5, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with acute myocarditis. What began as a typical day at an AJGA tournament in Indiana quickly escalated into a life-threatening situation, leading to an emergency medevac by helicopter to UIC Hospital in Chicago. I spent seven incredibly scary days in the ICU, each moment filled with uncertainty and fear.
During this time, the medical team at UIC Hospital provided not only exceptional medical care but also unwavering compassion and support. Their dedication went beyond their professional duties; they became a source of hope and strength for me and my family. I am eternally grateful to them for giving me a second chance at life.
Throughout this ordeal, my passion for golf remained a beacon of hope and a reason to fight so hard to heal. The sport of golf has always been more than just a game to me; it embodies lessons of perseverance, determination, and focus. These principles along with my deep faith during my recovery became my guiding light, reminding me to cherish each moment and to approach life with pure gratitude.
One evening, as my mom walked through the ICU halls, she came back to my room and shared her sadness for the numerous children facing their battles alone, without the presence of loved ones any where to be found. This story she shared deeply moved me, highlighting how fortunate I was to have my family’s support during such a critical time. It also reminded me of the power of prayer from my family, friends and community. It reinforced my belief in the importance of giving back and supporting those who may not have the same support system and opportunities that life has given to me.
This is why I am committed to supporting the Jack Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation and the AJGA’s Liberty National ACE Grant. The Jack Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation was established by Jack and Barbara Nicklaus in 2004 to provide families access to world-class pediatric healthcare.  The Liberty National ACE Grant provides financial assistance to young men and women who aspire to earn a college golf scholarship through competitive junior golf.  By contributing to these foundations, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of many, offering them hope and a chance to pursue their dreams.
As I prepare for the 2025 golf season, I am filled with gratitude for my return to full health and the opportunity to return to the sport I love so much. In 2023, with your generous support, we raised $38,000 for these causes. This year, I have set an ambitious goal to raise $77,777. I believe that together, we can achieve this and make an even greater impact.
