The First Tee-Oakland and Liberty National ACE Grant Program

Derek Lee

I am so excited to be a part of the AJGA's Leadership Links program. This program helps develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service oriented practices at an early age. This year my goal is to raise $2,000 to support the AJGA’s Liberty National ACE Grant Program and The First Tee-Oakland, all funds raised will be split 50/50.

The First Tee-Oakland has a special place in my heart as it is where I was first introduced to this great game at the age of 7. Last fall, I started volunteering as a Junior Coach as I wanted the opportunity to give back to the game that I love and have the privilege of playing. My goal is to serve as a positive role model and to be a mentor to the kids in the program.

In 2024, the First Tee-Oakland, working with the Oakland Unified School District, delivered their Life Skills Curriculum to over 350 students, of which 50% were female participants and 92% were youth of color, at Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland. They also reached more than 2,800 students with their on-campus events last year. What makes the First Tee-Oakland unique and different than any of the other 150 First Tee chapters in the country is they provide their program, including transportation to and from the golf course, to the kids and their families free of charge.

The American Junior Golf Association and The First Tee-Oakland are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, and all donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Derek Lee
